Sigma fp Gets ProRes RAW, Dual ISO and More in Huge Firmware Update

Sigma has released a major firmware update for the tiny Sigma fp full-frame mirrorless camera, adding a bunch of high-end video features like external ProRes RAW recording, Blackmagic RAW recording, Dual ISO support, cinemagraph capture, and lots more.

Big firmware updates seem to be the way of things these days. From Nikon, to Leica, and now Sigma, camera companies are increasingly promising features that aren’t actually available at camera launch. Fortunately, they all seem to be following through on their promised updates.

That’s how we arrived at Firmware v2.0 for the Sigma fp, which was officially released earlier today. The change-log is extensive, but you can get an overview of the key features in the videos below:

In case you don’t have time to watch, here are some of the most important new and updated features included in this update:

  • The ability to record 12-bit 4K ProRes RAW video to an Atomos Ninja V external recorder.
  • The ability to record Blackmagic RAW video to a Blackmagic Video Assist 12G
  • Support for Dual Base ISO, which can now be set to either 100 or 3200
  • The ability to capture stills while recording CinemaDNG RAW video
  • The ability to record 1080/120p RAW video in 8-bit and 10-bit CinemaDNG
  • The ability to capture and play back cinemagraphs in-camera
  • The ability to play back CinemaDNG RAW footage in-camera
  • A new HDR movie mode

This is just a basic overview of the big stuff; Sigma really went all out here. To see a list of all of the new features or download the update for yourself, head over to the Sigma website.
