Kiano Lets You Visually Explore All the Photos on Your Mac or iPhone

If you enjoy novel ways of browsing through huge collections of photos, check out Kiano. It’s a new app for Mac and iOS that lets you visually navigate through all the photos in your photos library.

Photos are organized according to similarity (either color or content) on a huge map, and simple gestures (zoom, pan, swipe) can be used to effortlessly explore the imagery.

In addition to using the image map with a flat or perspective view, Kiano also provides list views, a professional photo viewer, and a similarity search (for photos similar in appearance or shot near a query photo).

Here’s a short 1-minute video demo of the app:

The app was created by the Visual Computing team at the Germany university HTW Berlin. This is the same developers that created Picsbuffet for exploring stock photos and wikiview for exploring Wikipedia photos.

Kiano is available for free for MacOS 10.15 Catalina and above as well as iOS 11 and above.
