NY Mets Honor Late Photog Anthony Causi with Cutout in Photo Pit

The New York Mets have come up with a touching way to honor the late New York Post sports photographer Anthony Causi, who passed away in April at age 48 from COVID-19. The baseball team placed a cardboard cutout of Causi in the photo pit at Citi Field.

As the shortened 2020 is kicking off, MLB baseball teams have been filling empty seats with cutouts of fans. The Mets went a step further and made sure that Causi had a spot too.

“He was a charismatic photographer who brought fans closer to the action with his breathtaking images of the Mets,” Mets COO Jeff Wilpon said in a statement. “More importantly, he was a friend to so many of us through his numerous spring trainings in Port St. Lucie as well as being a fixture at Citi Field.”

The New York Yankees also honored Causi with a moment of silence prior to a game against the Mets this past Sunday.

Causi spent 25 years with the New York Post and became one of the best-known sports photographers covering New York City sports teams, including the Yankees, Mets, Giants, Jets, Knicks, Rangers.

“We had to save him a spot,” the New York Mets Tweeted.
