Skylum Shows Off Content-Aware ‘AI Structure’ Tool Coming to Luminar 4

After announcing the development of Lumiar 4 and teasing its intelligent sky replacement tech, Skylum is keeping the AI train rolling by debuting a new content-aware feature: AI Structure.

AI Structure boosts details and increases local contrast in your images, applying the edit intelligently so skin isn’t overly sharpened, and you’re less likely to get noise or halos. It’s like using a combination of the Clarity and Texture sliders in Adobe Lightroom, but without the need to paint in the edit or mask out problem areas—AI Structure promises to do all the masking for you.

Or, in Skylum’s own words:

AI Structure in Luminar 4 automatically identifies objects like people and their faces, skin, sky, buildings and more, and improves them intelligently, instead of globally across the photograph. It adds detail and clarify to areas that otherwise wouldn’t have much, boosting the structure and making for a much more pleasing image.

Here’s a quick intro video that shows the feature in action:

And here are some before-and-after GIFs that show what AI Structure can do:

Like AI Sky Replacement, the AI Structure tool will officially launch as part of Luminar 4 later this fall, alongside “additional machine learning tools” that we expect Skylum to continue revealing one-by-one in the lead-up to the official announcement.
